ABOUT 1STDOWN SCOUTING

1stDown Scouting was built from a lifelong passion for football and, more specifically, a fascination with understanding what makes a football player good.

That process began at a young age. Long before game film was readily available online, evaluating players meant watching games live, taking detailed notes, and learning to recognize traits quickly as they happened on the field. The question was always simple: What is this player doing that makes him effective?

As access to recorded games expanded, so did the evaluation process. Instead of focusing only on the football, the quarterback, or the player making the highlight, the focus became every player on every snap — studying movement, instincts, technique, effort, consistency, awareness, and the small details that often determine whether a player’s game will translate to the next level.

Over time, thousands of evaluations helped shape an independent scouting perspective built around one fundamental belief:

Evaluate the player you see on film.

Not the recruiting ranking.
Not the school.
Not the conference.
Not the hype surrounding him.

1stDown Scouting exists to provide a home for those evaluations — from prospects receiving national attention to players who may be overlooked, undervalued, or simply deserve a closer look.

This isn’t about predicting every player’s future correctly or revisiting old evaluations with the benefit of hindsight. It’s about documenting the evaluation honestly at the time it is made, explaining what shows up on film, and continually studying the game.

Because ultimately:

Where Your Play On The Field… Not The Jersey You Wear… Matters Most!
