Alexander Mattison

#22 Alexander Mattison

DRAFT CLASS:  SO/2020

POSITION: Running Back (RB)

SCHOOL: Boise State

HEIGHT:  5-11

WEIGHT:  214

40 Time:  0.00

STRENGTHS

  • Last year he was a reserve when evaluated…but in the 2017/18 upcoming CFB season he will the starting RB toting the rock for the Broncos
  • He possesses a solid athletic build to his frame….with room for growth with him early in his collegiate career
  • In limited evaluation snaps on him he displayed above average vision & a highly effective jump step…allowing him to find daylight & consistently gains hidden yardage
  • His running style reminds me of current NFL/RB “Jamaal Charles”…not sure he has quite the straight-line speed of Charles?…but seems to possess everything else
  • Another elite attribute he brings to the table are his feet…which consistently keep defenders off balance…and once again allow him to gain the hidden yardage
  • He is such an effective runner in traffic…frequently making defenders miss in tight areas…or displaying strong leg drive for the tough yards when needed
  • He displays SUCH acceleration before contact with defenders…then they become well aware how difficult it is to bring him down…add in his balance and low pad level…gives reason why he consistently finishes off runs leaning forward after last contact
  • An area of his game that seems to go unnoticed is an excellent pair of hands bringing in passes out of the backfield…be nice to see this area of his game incorporated more in the team’s game plan

WEAKNESSES

  • Does he possess the breakaway speed?

SUMMARY

  • Mattison is clearly one of the big “Breakout” performers for me coming into the CFB season that I am looking for the nation to catch up to soon!
