Laughery immediately displayed quick feet, allowing him to change direction in tight areas. He showed flashes of decisive running, along with good intensity and passion for the game. Although a good athlete rather than a great one, his natural football instincts and competitive mentality warranted a closer evaluation.
2023 — Missed three games due to an undisclosed injury.
During the second game evaluated, it became apparent that Laughery's best opportunity at the next level may require a position change from running back to Multi-Back (MB), where his natural instincts, quick feet, versatility, and physical mentality could be better utilized.
In this role, Laughery could be deployed from multiple positions, including slot receiver, wide receiver, and running back. His running background could benefit him on pre-snap motion, handoffs, passes into the flat, and underneath or intermediate routes. He could also receive occasional carries from the backfield. His quick feet, change-of-direction ability, and fearless mentality suggest potential as a punt returner, although his ability to handle those responsibilities would need evaluation.
Laughery projects as a potential priority UDFA signing for an NFL organization willing to develop him into a specialized offensive weapon. His limited explosion, need for additional strength, and unproven receiving skills create legitimate projection concerns. Most importantly, his development would require a coaching staff with the vision and commitment to utilize his abilities in multiple situations.
Despite those uncertainties, Laughery's football instincts, competitive toughness, and versatility make him an intriguing developmental prospect. He's worth bringing into training camp to compete for a 53-man roster spot, with the practice squad providing another avenue for continued development. His potential reward could justify the investment for an organization prepared to develop his Multi-Back role.
